In Matthew chapter 6, we find possibly the most quoted prayer in the entire Bible. But if you look back just a few verses, Jesus makes a statement more than once, that we often overlook.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0“And when you pray… (in verses 5, 6 and 7)<\/span><\/p>\n

The assumption here is that we <\/span>are<\/span><\/i> praying. If that is the case, why do so many believers struggle in their prayer life?<\/span><\/p>\n

Our speaker for this year\u2019s Women\u2019s Weekend, Cheryl Moses, can remember being asked to pray in public and feeling so intimidated because she felt like she did not pray as well as others. She realized the truth, that prayer is not about her. It is a conversation with the keeper of her heart and the lover of her soul. It doesn\u2019t matter who else is in the room.<\/span><\/p>\n

Cheryl is going to take us on a deep dive into why we pray and the importance of this practice that Jesus modeled so well. We will look at several passages where the prayers of Jesus are recorded. One of those is her favorite chapter in the Bible, John 17. There we see what motivated Jesus to pray. It was intimacy with his Father. This is where we start. This is why we pray.<\/span><\/p>\n

Meet Your Retreat Speaker – Cheryl Moses<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n

<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

Cheryl Moses is the Secretary and Ladies’ Ministry Leader at Calvary Community Church, in Houston, Texas. She is a writer, event planner, and creative soul who is \u201cEbby\u201d (her grandma name) to a few young darlings, and the human mom to one adorably sweet canine named, Beau.<\/span><\/p>\n

Cheryl began attending Calvary in 1991, and since then her understanding of who Jesus is and how big His love is for his beloved ones, has grown considerably.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Cheryl has a heart for serving others and ministering to women, and she deeply loves the church. Above all, her passion is to see believers flourish in their walk with the Lord, especially those who believe they have strayed too far to come back home.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

While most groups include men and women, we offer a few just for women. These include Moms of the Rock, Single Moms Support, and select Bible studies or Living Free groups. What is truth<\/span><\/strong>?<\/p>\n

God created us to live lives of grace and truth<\/span><\/strong>. However, it can be hard to know what is true in our ever-changing world. Many times we want to live our \u201cown truth\u201d.<\/p>\n

While truth is a word that is used a lot in our culture, the Bible speaks a lot about unchanging truth. Jesus speaks about this in John 8: 31-32<\/strong><\/span>. He says that if you hold to His teachings, then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free. This truth, which doesn\u2019t change as our circumstances may, offers us hope during trials, promises that will not return void, joy that can not be stolen and peace that surpasses understanding.<\/p>\n

Join us Friday, October 6th<\/strong><\/span>, as we equip you with practical ways that we can seek<\/strong><\/span> the truth, and know<\/span><\/strong> the truth, so the truth can set us free<\/span><\/strong> in our everyday lives. We are excited to welcome Mary back as our speaker for this ROOTED Gathering. Mary wears many hats as she is a wife, mom, mother-in-law, and Grammie. Through studying and teaching scripture, she is passionate about sharing the gospel. Mary understands the struggle of patiently waiting to see how God will intercede in the life of our loved ones, and has her heart set on encouraging others that God\u2019s timing is beautiful. She has experienced God\u2019s faithful hand through times of hopelessness, need, brokenness, and sickness. Through it all, Mary still says \u201cIt is well\u201d, believing our mighty God is in control through Romans 10:11 \u201cWhoever believes in HIM WILL NOT BE disappointed\u201d.<\/p>\n

Yes! There is the option to pay for retreat registration ($85, which contributes to the cost of the weekend, all meals at Harvey Cedars, and retreat materials given out) and then find rooming options off-site. You are responsible for finding a hotel off-site and the cost of that.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0This year we do not have single options, as we only have a limited number of rooms on site at Harvey Cedars. Because of this, and to maximize the amount of women we can have join us, we do not have the single options as usual.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

If you are uncomfortable rooming with people you don\u2019t know, we suggest inviting a friend or two to join you for the weekend, or see if you community group is going, and suggest rooming together!<\/span><\/p>\n
